Research: My project will investigate the human-animal relationships at some of the main religious houses in Ulster, and how the local environment was exploited and adapted to best suit the economy of these Late Medieval sites. The study will assess how the landscape surrounding these sites influenced the decisions that were made regarding livestock and compare the approach of the various orders using both palaeoecological and zooarchaeological techniques. Potential grazing land and droveways will be identified through arial survey and phosphate analysis and the food economy of these sites through zooarchaeological and isotopic analysis of the faunal remains.
