Research: I’m Aimée a PhD student in the Geography Department of Queen’s University Belfast. I recently completed my undergraduate degree in Geography and Master’s in Climate Change, both here at Queen’s!
My project is titled ‘World Cup in the Arctic? Sport adaptation to extreme heat in a warming world’. I will be exploring how different areas of sport are being impacted by climatic changes from grass-roots amateur sport to the global stage with the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. This will involve building upon research I have previously completed concerning outdoor Winter Sports in my Master’s dissertation. As well as this I will explore the multitude of impacts of climate change not only upon athletes but also sporting officials and spectators.
The sports sector has a massive contribution to the global economy at $485 billion, therefore climate change is presenting an additional challenge in terms of organising sporting events.
