Project: Ice on Fire: exploring the relationship between glaciers and volcanoes

Research: Heat from volcanoes can affect overlaying glaciers by altering their mass balance and dynamics. We aim to use remote sensing to analyse changes in glacier geometry and velocity, as heat output from volcanoes shift, e.g., prior to eruptions. Observations of such changes may assist monitoring efforts of ice-capped volcanoes where remoteness and/or glacier cover hinder traditional surveys of volcanic activity.
